Celebrating the 350th Anniversary of Adam Shipley's Arrival in Maryland (1668 - 2018)

June 30th, 2018 was a hot, sunny day in Annapolis, full of excitement and joy for over 110 members and guests of The Shipleys of Maryland. Gathered together to celebrate the arrival of Adam Shipley, 350 years ago on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, the weekend began with a celebration luncheon at the Miller Senate Office Building.

What a beautiful setting it was for this occasion. The Maryland State Archives, represented by Ms. Elaine Rice Bachmann, Deputy State Archivist, was our host. Upon entering, guests were greeted by members Peggy Feige and Debra Hartley, signed the guest book, and received their name tags. With a glance to the right, one couldn't miss the large wall display assembled by our former newsletter editor, and Board member, Connie Sparrow. Just weeks earlier, Connie made contact with Pam Elliott, the Research Room Manager and Archivist for the York Family History Society in England. It was all there on her display-----Adam's parents, his siblings, village maps and more. Do you know how many years we have been seeking this information about Adam's family? The timing of these discoveries couldn't have been more perfect.

Guests then made their way into the main luncheon room where they could help themselves to appetizers, and meet and greet each other. Tables were assigned, with the official program at each place setting, along with a Shipley keychain as a favor and remembrance.

Eric Shipley, our able president and emcee for the day, welcomed all to the luncheon and festive weekend. He spoke briefly about the Shipleys and our organization, and called on others to speak about various topics throughout the event.
